The Virtual Classroom
Objective
At the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Structure an online course in Moodle using topics and lessons by adding discussion forums, chat, adding assignments, flash video, presentations and quizes
- Create an interactive training scenario using Adobe Captivate
Lecture:
- Presentation: Intro to Learning Management Systems Moodle
- Turning your Course into a Virtual Classroom using Moodle
- Adding activities on Moodle'
- Useing Email on Moodle
- Adding discussion forums and guiding discussion activities
- Using chat
- Managing your virutal classroom
- Having students upload assignments
- Creating a short quiz in Moodle
- Adobe Captivate - Review of creating interactive training scenarios
Lab
Class/Group Activity - Create your lesson plan for your final project that will be hosted on Moodle. Use at least 5 topics. Use handouts and knowledge you've learned through-out the course
Homework:
- Work on Final Project Online Class Structure
- Incorporate your exisiting course Introduction, Course Description, Objectives and midterm objective to:
- Create a course that contains at least 5 topics incorporating all the instructional design techniques you have learned. Each topic must contain the 7 components of a topic as follows:
- Title
- Objective
- Introduction
- Summary
- Activities (Absorb, Do and Connect)
- Assessment (Quiz)
- Links
- Your Course must be saveed as a SWF file and hosted on the Class Moodle Site in the Topic Format and contain
- Discussion Forums
- A Chat Room
- A Content Page per Topic
- A Q&A Forum
- A Final Quiz
- Your course must also contain all the techniques you have been introduced to in Adobe Captivate as follows:
- Audio (background music or your voice)
- A simulation (demo)
- Graphics and Animation techniques
- Interactivity and good navigation. (i.e. Click Areas, Rollover images, highlight boxes, rollover slidelets and rollover captions to encourage interaction with the learner
- Read Chapter 9 - Designing for the virtual classroom
- Set up your course structure for hosting on Moodle. Your objective must be interactive (i.e. user prompted to enter information or response.)
