- Presentation - Review of HTML, XHTML, XHTML Rules, Structure and Types and CSS.
Overview of web standards and best practices on the web. Brief history of the evolution
of CSS Web Standard. - Presentation on Information Architecture (IA) - Pre-Production Theme, Metaphors and Storyboards
Demo
- Overview of the CSS Zen Garden Web site
- Creating an XHTML document and adding semantic elements.
- Review of applying CSS, CSS Rules, Selectors, Tags, Class and ID
- Review of how CSS is applied. Browser style, user style, author style (inline, imbedded, linked
and imported.) Inheritance and the Cascade.
Lab:
- Students do a primer on XHTML and create a simple page using XHTML and CSS.

Homework:
- Read Chapter 1 and 2 of the Head First Web Design Book Building Beautiful Web Pages (pg. 1-67).
- Think of a website you would like to create or improve. Using the guidelines in Chapter 2 of the Head First Web Design text and the techniques you learned in class today, determine the theme and metaphors and create two to four storyboards. Come prepared to present your ideas and proposal to class next week
