Now serving more than 600,000 residential and 60,000 commercial customers, Recology is the new name for Norcal Waste Systems, Inc. It's a change rooted in our 89-year heritage as one of the nation's first urban recyclers.

Recology, formerly known as Norcal Waste Systems, Inc. is an integrated resource recovery company headquartered in San Francisco, California. The company collects and processes municipal solid waste, reclaiming useful materials that would have otherwise been buried in a landfill. The company also runs transfer stations, materials recovery facilities (MRFs), a relatively small number of landfills, and the only large-scale municipal organics composting operations in the United States. Responsible for the highest landfill diversion rate in the country as a partner with the City of San Francisco, the company changed its name in April, 2009 to reflect it's culture and values. The name Recology is a combination of the words "recycle" and "ecology".
